MCSDI Statement on Iran Protests-December 2025

The Minnesota Committee in Support of a Democratic Iran stands in full solidarity with the people of Iran and unequivocally supports the nationwide protests, general strikes, and student demonstrations taking place across the country. Millions are confronting unlivable conditions driven by economic collapse, corruption, widespread poverty, environmental degradation, water shortages, unsafe air, and the systematic denial of fundamental rights.

Rather than addressing these legitimate demands, the authorities have responded with violence, mass arrests, executions, and deliberate internet shutdowns aimed at silencing dissent and evading accountability. These actions constitute serious and ongoing violations of international human rights law.

MCSDI affirms the Iranian people’s right to peaceful protest, collective action, and self-determination. The voices rising from the streets, workplaces, and universities send a clear message: people are demanding freedom and fundamental change toward a democratic system of governance. The international community must move beyond expressions of concern and take concrete action to support the Iranian people’s struggle for human rights, justice, and self-determination.
